If this is a sporadic issue, you might be able to handle yourself - go around the outside of the house and plug up all holes (mice can get through about 1/4-1/2" holes), ditto for openings up from the crawl space or from the attached garage, if you have one.

Then put out baited traps - either spring type, sticky tape, or house motel humane type, as suits your taste. Bait with nuts or sunflower seeds pressed into peanut butter. Check daily, clean and change bait eery 4-5 days if not taken and move trap to another area.

Best trap areas - along wall behind large furniture like couch, behind reefer, next to stove, in cupboards with cereal or grains, along outside wall behind obstruction like woodpile, tools, etc - someplace they can move in security and you pets cannot get at the traps.

Obviously, you have to block the traps from your pets.

If a major problem or you are squeemish about mice, probably about $100-150/visit, and probably about 2-4 visits to eliminate the infestation professionally with traps and bait.

The other thing you HAVE to do it find and eliminate what is attracting them - something is pulling them into the house unless only occurring in fall (when they look kfor warmer quarters) - spiled food, openings into food cupboards, pet food, etc.
