Want to add additional space to my home by adding part of the garage and opening that space between the wall to add to the interior of my living room space.

Here are links to a couple of previous similar or related questions which might be of interest.
When considering this (assuming existing is a heated garage or built so that is feasible) I always recommend having the architect run the conecptual cost nunbers on converting the garage to living space and adding a new garage alongside or in front - as that can sometimes (especially in areas not requiring a deep foundation under the garage so a slab-on-grade will work) be as cheap or nearly so, sometimes with a significant increase in usable square footage of living space. This is because garage space is pretty cheap to build - commonly around 1/2-2/3 the cost of finished living space, so converting a garage which is suitable for living space finishing and building a new garage can commonly be as cherap or cheaper than new living space construction without the cost of raising the roof. Depends of course on which story you want the space on, available lot space without infringing on adjacent property line limits and such, whether your HVAC appliances are in the garage or not, whether your existing garage slab is dry or not, etc.
