how to fill in a old basment

I have a old church basement that I really have no use for. When it rains it quickly fills up with water and needs to be pumped out, because it was an old church it does have a hole for a sump pump. The hole dose not seemed to be clogged but still fills up and over flows when it rains and dose not drain after the rain has stopped. I tired of pumping it out. The basement is 40 x 60 and about 5 feet deep. How would I go about getting this filled and what would I need to fill it with so I won't have to worry about it sinking in or settling. There is cinder blocks on the walls that is about 3 blocks high. Could I push them in there to help with the fill? I would like to keep the walls but just have the middle filled in. I might build a garage in the future on the walls. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
