how does florian solar sunrooms compare to the traditional mounting solar panels on the roof?

Would it be less maintenance in the long run? How does the installation and overall cost compare?

I do not have a lot of experience with them, but the couple I have been involved with were solar panels as roofing - so basically replacing some of the plastic or glass panels in a sunroom/atrium, as opposed to the usual roof-mounted but not roof-replacing solar panels, so you are not exactly comparing apples to apples. Also, at least some of the Florian panels are double-faced, so you are collecting energy not only from outside but also from the reflected light in the room. Als cost more in general because they are the roofing system, not just elevated panels, so have to be able to handle greater loading conditions than regular solar panels, so more expensive.

There are a fair number of case-related blogs and articles on the web - I suggest you look at them, bearing in mind that installing and replacing the solar-panels-as-roofing might take a higher level of expertise and probably cannot be done by a standard roofer, and of course any storm damage means replacing not only the panel but also roofing, with associated panel-edge leakage sealing considerations - more like replacing a skylight than a roof bracket-mounted solar panel. I would also expect long-term maintenance costs to be higher, not lower - but remember you have to consider part of that maintenance as equivalent roof repair, not just panel maintenance - so again, not quite an apples to apples comparison.
