how is hydro stop applied on a tin roof

100 years old tin roof that has been coated with several different coating paints. Some rust showing.

Hydro-Stop makes a lot of products - partial list of roofing repair productshere -

Some are applied by trowel, some by roller or mop, some by spray, some either of several ways. Depends on the product and the typeof material it is going over - in your case, they have brushable/roller application products for use on metal roofs, but a professional would almost certainly use a sprayable product.

Any loose or peeling prior product should certainly be removed first, and rusty areas should be treated in a approved method - usually by sandblasting and repriming, or by using a rusty metal primer which is allowed to fully cure before the sealant is put over it. Since your has several products on it, a test patch to determine if it peels or lifts the underlying coats should be done before signing a contract for the whole thing, too.
