This is very common, but not knowing what type of finish you have, hard to say what will work to remove it. Anything you try, unless you have a floor refinishing contractor do it,you should try in a closet or other place where it will not show if it damages the finish.

It is normal for floors to need refinishing after being under carpet unlerlayment, especially foam rubber type, so you may not be able to solve this without a hardwood refinish job.

Possible things to try, in order of aggressiveness:

1) lay a hot wet washrag over it for 1 minute, to see if it softens it - if so, then a cleaner like 401 with hot water may do it

2) Armstrong Hardwood & Laminate Cleaner (what I recommend for cleaning wood and laminate floors)

3) rubbing alcohol

4) wax remover for hardwood floors

more aggressive ones, that can really lift some types of finishes - be sure to well ventilate when using these - flammable (as is alcohol)

5) SC Johnson FloorCare Wood Concentrated Cleaner - undiluted

6) paint thinner (quick wipes, do NOT let sit)

7) hand-steamer to soften, plastic scraper to remove - go easy, as excess steaming will bubble finishes
