Depends somewhat on what they are taking off, how many windows and doors, if more than 2 story, etc.

General ballpark numbers, installed, with teroff and disposal of existing siding, but NOT any repair of underlying water damage or insulation upgrades:

Hardboard and foamboard panelling - 2.50-4.50/SF (and I bet you live to regret it)

T-111 / siding plywood products- $3-4/SF

Vinyl - 2.50-5.00/SF (and good luck - you will need it)

Aluminum - $4.50-5.50/SF (and be prepared for dents)

Hardiplank / cement fiberboard - $3.00-6.00/SF, generally about $5/SF

Wood clapboard - $5-7/SF

Brick veneer - $6-10/SF

If you click on the Home link at lower left under Projects, then the + to expand the list out, and click on Siding, you can read a number of related questions and anwers about different types of siding materials.
