I know in our area, which granted does not have as good reception as most of the US because only one satellite is in position at any time to receive signals from, a number of my neighbors went with the cheaper Dish TV and internet packages, only to abandon it to conventional cable TV or telephone company DSL/TV service due to frequent interruptions and dropouts.

It appears the TV reception is OK unless you are on a very large high def screen, where pixelation due to dropped bits shows up, but the internet service is evidently pretty susceptible to dropout due to airplanes passing through the line of sight (common in our area - near 4 airfields plus on major flight path in and out of metropolitan area), and due to solar disruptions in the ionosphere.

I know 5 nearby neighbors had that complaint as when I dropped AT&T in favor of my local telephone company phone-line connected DSL I asked the neighbors with Dish or Direct TV.
