Below are a previous similar question with answer about that - in addition to Home Security and Instrumentation people, regular Electrical contractors can certainly do it fine if it is a "plug and play" system, not requiring understanding of software to operate the system, or record what it sees - otherwise unless you are tech savvy enough to handle that part could be a gamble on whether it will get fully set up and operational as you want or not.

In addition to testing the system and alarms before he goes away, if one of the ones remotely accessible by cell phone or off the web, or which is supposed to send texts or eMails to you if it detects anything or has a problem, be sure those options are functional before paying him too. I have heard a fair number of comments about installers, especially the door-to-door salesman sold ones, going off after the on-site functional test but not testing the remote access part, which I guess can be confusing to set up in many cases.

Also, be sure you know how to change the security code right after he leaves - you do not want the installer knowing the access code.
