Question DetailsAsked on 12/28/2011

need going pay rate to pay painters for ceilings, walls, trim, doors in Houston. I have all the paint and supplies. Hourly and /or Per foo

I hired a guy to paint it. He quoted on Ceilings and Walls separately, then changed to hourly on the trim...but has not done the doors yet. He and his helper have done a real BAD JOB (plus paint on my hardwood floors), so tonight I am going to ask him to FIX THE JOB RIGHT ...or I am not going forward with the back half of the house. SO I WANT SOME INFO ON PAY
AMOUNTS PER HOUR FOR PAINTERS......AND ALSO HOW MUCH DO THEY CHARGE BY FOOT, SQ. FT., LN. FT. CAN YOU HELP ME. THANKS,
I thought at first his prices were ok - BUT NO PRICE IS OK for a BAD JOB.
I WISH I HAD MY PAINT BACK AND MY TIME, ETC. At the age of 70, this is too much mess and chaos for my Blood Pressure and Nerves. I would rather do it myself - I can do as good as they did....and, I would if I was physically able...but, old age has set in. THANKS. ROBBIE HAMMEL.

ps. My first time to Angie's List...

Price will vary based on a number of factors. In San Antonio I expect to pay my paint subcontractors $150 and sometimes more per day. Basically $20 per hour or possibly a bit more if the job demands higher skill and harder conditions. A good helper is about $12-15 per hour. A lot of handymen claim they can paint but there is a vast difference in the quality of work between a handyman and properly trained painter. It really is an art and takes skill as well as knowledge. If this guy is not doing a quality job stop him now before he just costs you more money. It costs more to undo bad work to then make it right than just having it done right the first time. Check Angie's List & the BBB for references and get bids to make it right if this guy can't.

I'm a full service contractor in Germantown, Wisconsin. We normally charge by the room, and then how many coats we put the walls and ceiling by be extra cost because of man hours. Also if we have to wash or prime walls or ceiling we charge extra for that type of serivce by the hour or job. I hope this answer your question.

Sincerely

Joe
