Question DetailsAsked on 5/22/2011

I was thinking about signing up for angieslist. Something I understand about becoming a member is that contractors who are invited to advertise on the List offer discounts to members. Something I am curious about...what is to stop someone who is not an angieslist members from claiming to a contractor that he/she is a member and is entitled to a discount? How do contractors verify if whether or not the person who contacted them is a current member of the list?

Hi Ralph,

Yes, companies who are rated on Angie's List are invited to offer discounts to our members, however those companies must be in good standing and maintain at least a "B" grade average. However, not all highly rated companies on the list advertise or offer discounts. Only Angie's List members can see the discounts, so a non-member would have no way of knowing about the discount without first signing up for Angie's List. Plus, members must print out coupons they wish to use.

If you're not sure about signing up, you can try Angie's List out for a month for just a few dollars. We also offer a 110-percent money-back guarantee on all annual memberships. Typically, one discount from a service provider can more than pay for the cost of joining Angie's List and you're assured of reading unbiased reviews, since companies do not pay to be on the list and we have processes in place to prevent companies from rating themselves.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.
