You can find a LOT of previous very similar questions with answers about failed/broken screens in the Home > TV Repair link, under Browse Projects, at lower left.

If positive it is the screen (like punctured or was hit and shows broken glass or discolored or dark spot in it at the point of impact) a TV Repair shop, given the make and model number, should be able to give you a real close estimate on the repair cost. If the screen was not knowlingly damaged but is not working right, then could be screen, backlight unit, connection problem, video driver, mother card, power supply, etc - so getting a good estimate is going to be tougher - and not accurately possible over the phone.

Always bear in mind (check out prices first) what a new equivalent TV costs, because with prices constantly dropping with box store sales and such, commonly repairing a TV that is less than about 45-55 inches is a breakeven or loss, with the new TV warranty commonly favoring just getting a replacement in many breakeven cases. Smaller TV's are largely throw-away consumable items these days - some out there now less than about 50 inch are actually built so the screen cannot be replaced, and they do not sell replacement screens for them.

You also need to factor in pickup and redelivery charge if you cannot transport it yourself safely, and the risk of getting it fixed and then breaking it again taking it back home from the shop. I have heard several horror stories about that, with people spending $1000 or more to get a large screen or big projection TV fixed just to break it getting it back home and in place, so be aware of that financial risk (though part of that loss might be covered by homeowners insurance). Had a neighbor do that - a warranty repair on a new 70" TV, which they then lbroke the new screen on just handling it putting it back in the wall mount frame - just warping the TV body a bit broke the screen, which the manufacturer would not cover because it was not in the original packaging at the time.

Don't forget to check online for any recalls on your make and model if it failed without being struck - a LOT of screen are going out because of thermal stress fractures or because the screen does not have cushioning at the body of the TV, so slight warping of the body can crack or delaminate the screen and/or backlight units. A quick google search popped up a LOT of complaints about Insignia TV screens going black but the sound still working - but I did not immediately see any recalls of note. From blogs looks like Insignia TV's are rebrands of other TV-s = apparently commonly previous year or unsold (so sometimes troubled) models rebranded and sold as Insignia - several said many or most are LG's or Toshibas, both of which have a lot of screen complaints on the web.

And of course if it was accidentally broken, repair/replacement cost might be limited to your homeowner's policy deductible (subject to any single-item limit they have).
