replacing glass in french doors

the glass in our french doors has begun to get a fog inside the seal between the two layers of glass and what was once clear is now opaque. I am looking to have the glass replaced rather than the doors and frame replaced, if that is possible.

Your double or triple-pane window unit hermetic seal has failed - commonly around 10-15 years in high sun exposure windows, 15-25 years commonly otherwise. Most door types can have the glazing unit (all the glass and the aluminum wrap seal) replaced - some doors/windows need to be removed from the frame to do this (especailly metal ones so the screws holding it together can be accessed and the frame slipped apart), many can be replaced in-place - especially in wood wondows.

Glass and Mirrors is the normal Angies List Search the List category for this - a Glass Replacement company is what you are looking for. Granted - some types of vinyl and fiberglass doors and windows are now being formed with the glass integral to the unit and cannot reasonably be replaced, but most and essentially all mid to higher-range ones can be.

Cost - depends a lot on model and type and any special glass or heat mirror film or such, but for two normal sized french doors I would expect at least $500 and probably more toward the $1000 range complete - which is still only typically 1/4-1/2 the cost of replacing the entire door assembly.
