tree removal

I have a dead Ash tree in my backyard which needs cut down and stump removed.

Here is a similar question and answer:

IF your tree is very large, straight, and does not have significant damage (burned, rotted out, hollow, or heavily insect bored) and the diameter at chest height is bigger than about 30 inches, you might contact local small lumbermill operations - they might take it down and haul it off for free, which would leave you with the probably $100 or so to have the stump ground away.

Of course, the mill people would not be insured, unless you talked them into paying for a professional tree company to do the takedown in lengths the mill wanted, so they could then come and pick it up.

Ditto if you call a firewood company, who might take it down for free and haul it off.
