Google a search phrase like this, substituting your contractor name and state (or city) and discipline of course - Buffalo plumbing contractor license list . If no luck finding state contractors (or architect/engineer/surveyor) licensee list if you put that word in (leave "contractor" out for professions as opposed to contractors, which are considered "trades") then google for your state contractors board or state engineers or architects or surveyors board and look for link to licensee list, or for search licenses box. Professions usually are state registered plus may need state and maybe local business license, trades (contractors and personal service providers) may require both state license and a local city one, as well as a business license from state and maybe locally too.

Here is a sample page for the above search example -

Hi! This is Mary Beth from the Member Care Department. I'm sorry for my delay in getting back to you.

Each provider on the List is responsible for reporting their licensing status through our Licensing Attestation program. Our Trade Licensing Department will then perform audits to ensure the accuracy of these claims.

Whether a provider is listed as having a license or not, we always encourage members to follow-up with service providers to make sure that their licensing information is accurate and up-to-date. The List provides a starting point, but additional research and verification is always encouraged.

If you would like for us to verify the licensing for this provider, or see if a license is required for a particular trade, we are happy to help. Please just reply to this message or give one of our Neighborhood Specialists a call toll-free at 1-888-944-5478, and we can pass your request to our Trade Licensing Department. Our call center hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am-9:00 pm Eastern Time or Saturday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm ET. We can also be reached by email at memberservices@angieslist.com. Thanks for reaching out!--Mary Beth
