With an operating well in current use, AL does not have a category for it but you can find local water test labs to do the standard VA tests. Or check with your Realtor for names.

Water sampling is commonly done by the civil engineer doing septic system inspection/testing if that is required - no longer a mandatory VA/FHA requirement but is needed in some areas with known septic system issues, and on new systems.

If out-of-service well, then you would need a Well and Pump contractor to do a "clearing" pumpout of the well (to get out the stagnant, more contaminant concentrated water from the well) then take a sample for testing.

Be sure to check exactly which tests the lender wants - in some areas the standard EPA potable water test is not all - some areas add tests for certain minerals that cause pick buildup and such, and in select areas tests for pesticides and industrial/agricultural chemicals and such in addition to what the VA requires.

Also - sounds like you are the buyer - in some areas the SELLER has to have the sampling and testing done at his expense, or as part of a contingency list - depends on locale.
