what is the best floor sweeper & cleaner

Have had several Hoover Floormate sweeper/cleaners, but they don't last. What product for home use would be along the same lines but are made to last? The last Hoover Floormate only lasted 7 months.

We just use a carpet sweeper for quick pickup of spillage or stray threads and such on carpet, then a front edging brush bag upright type with adjustable brush height for both hard flooring and carpets - then mop and bucket for washing hard floors.

For what you are looking at, though less maneuverable than Hoover and a LOT heavier - RugDoctor carpet/hard floor cleaners (note- different than just rug shampoers) seem to last fairly long and definitely get the dirt out. Not recommended for seamed/jointed flooring though - gets too wet in the joints.
