if its small areas just mix plain water and perioxide its lifts the stain right out now for large areas i'd recommend you rent a rug doctor

There is no "best method" to cleaning carpet as carpet can be of different materials and of different construction. A professional will identify the material and construction and will choose the best method to clean it. Hot water extraction, encapsulation, dry chemical, etc. all have there place, but you need to know which fits the situation.
