Question DetailsAsked on 8/2/2013

what is the best product for cleaning leather furniture - I have a chair with dark spots and I want to clean it.

It is a rugged chair - color brown. The dark stains have been there for 2 or more years. Stains located on the head rest, the arm rests and the seat.

These are stains from skin oil, and deeply set by now. If you google this search phrase you will find some suggestions - clean oil stains off leather - but basically you are not going to get them out without pulling the stain that colors the leather too. Some leather shops do service calls to treat this kind of stain - they use detergents and bleach to lift most of the oil, dry the leather, then treat with a staining agent to roughly match the existing. It will look better, but usuallky not anywhere near "new".

If you really like the look and feel of leather, that is the price you pay. If you like the durability of leather but are willing to sacrifice some of the look, put armrost and headrest covers on it to protect from the worst of the skin oil.
