Question DetailsAsked on 1/4/2012

what do you do for water spots on granite?

I have had new kitchen granite for 18 months. It's beautiful except for about 8 inches around the kitchen faucet where it is dull from water sitting on it. What's the best and easiest way to fix this?

It is probably from the deposits in the water. Have you been applying sealer or oil to the top to keep the pores sealed? Granite is a natural stone. Because of this it's pores will take in fine deposits if not maintained. To get them out you may have to have the installer come back out with his buffer if nothing has been done to maintain them and they have never been sealed. Do not use a harsh abrasive but some mild cleaners like are used on shower glass for deposits might work for you. 18 months is a long time for deposits to accumulate if you have hard water. We have to clean our deposits from the faucets and such every couple of months. The kitchen sink more often. I don't know how long the spots have been visible on your granite but if they are recent the mild cleaner should do the trick.

I have Granite Transformations, which is already sealed. However, when the counter(s) and my granite sink started getting too many spots I called them and asked about it. They told me to use Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. It seems to work really well. Give it a try.
