The direct answer to your question will largely depend on your location ,

and WHAT work is being performed ?


As of April 2010 , Every Painter , Every General Contractor , Every Handyman , Every Electrician , Every Plumber , Every Window Company and any others involved in the Construction Trade who has to Remove Painted Surfaces , Painted WALL Board,

Painted Trims or any other Painted Surface , In or On ANY Structure built before 1978 must be Certified , Pass an E.P.A. Required Course , and be able to present to any Client ,

The Certified Tradesmans Certificate of Course Completion !


This certificate is a business card size placard , which contains the date of Issue and date of Expiration along with the Certified Persons Photograph !


The LAW states that anyone who Removes more than 18 square feet of wall board OR 18 l.f. of Trim or mouldings MUST be Certified OR perform this work in the prescence of a CERTIFIED Credential Carrying Person .

The CERTIFICATION Prescribes Methods That Must Be Performed in order to remove said Lead Containing Painted Products. Since Gypsum Wall Board cannot be tested , ALL wall board in PRE 1978 built structures Must be cosidered contaminated by LEAD !


HOMEOWNERS are exempt from this Requirement for their individual Properties ONLY !


Anyone, who receives Pay of any type for said Removal Services MUST Be Certified

or be subject to a Fine of $ 32,000.00 per DAY , per Incident .

This means if you are Paying your Co Worker a 6pack of BEER , He must be Certified !
