Generally, part of the boilerplate in claim forms includes a requirement that the work be done by appropriately licensed professionals, and losses or damages resulting from or affecting unlicensed work can be excluded from coverage in the future.

I sort of doubt they check contractor licensing, especially if a license number (even if expired) appears on his invoices, but I seriously doubt they would pay if they knew he was unlicensed unless you paid for a professional review and statement of sufficiency of the work.
