Good answer by NewWindowMan - while it is actually illegal to require that only authorized installer put in or fix anything, that does not mean they will not make it difficult for you in the event of a claim - same as if you get your car fixed by someone other than the dealer and then try to do a warranty claim on the repair.

Many window installers will do this, as will a lot of GC's - what warranty you will get from the installer depends on the individual company, but as NewWindow says, if not a manufacturer authorized installer then if it comesto a window warranty claim you are probably out in the cold (so to speak), because it is unlikely the installer will go to bat for you with the manufacturer.

most window manufactures will only stand behind the product if it were installed by an authorised installer. find your manufactures recomended installer in your area other wise youll probably void out any warrantys.
